Song Lyric Analysis

I chose to analyze Umbrella by Rihanna. In the song, Rihanna uses the technique internal rhyme for example when she says "Let it rain, I hydroplane into fame". This is internal rhyme because in one line rain hydroplane and fame all rhyme. Another example of internal rhyme is when Rihanna sings "You know me, in anticipation for precipitation". In this line, anticipation and precipitation are the internal rhyming words.

Another technique Rihanna uses throughout the song is a slant rhyme such as when Rihanna says "You can run into my arms its ok don't be alarmed," This is an example of a slant rhyme because when said slowly arms and alarmed do not rhyme but the speaker can manipulate the surrounding words and how they are said to make them sound like they do rhyme. Slant rhymes allow Rihanna to use words that don't exactly rhyme but when said the right way do, this allows her to expand the eligible words for the song.
