Strengths and Weaknesses

Some of my strengths are my ability to add vivid detail at times when I feel necessary. This can help with almost all types of writing. In personal narratives it helps the reader feel like they are witnessing the event. In literary analysis I can describe the effect something has on the story very well. In research papers I can describe events and the effects of the events in great detail. Some of my weaknesses are not being able to understand the deeper meaning in certain things. Sometimes I can understand the deeper meaning in things just fine but other times I just think we are over analyzing it and there is nothing deep at all. But I can work on this by continuing to make connections and relate things with deeper meanings to modern day and things I understand so I understand them.

Hits and Misses

One of my writing successes this year was the blog post we did a few weeks ago where we got to choose from a list of of 500 prompts. I chose a prompt about how important it is to listen to the lyrics of a song and why you should do that. I really liked this post because I really enjoyed writing it whereas I usually dread all writing and blog posts. One of my misses was the research paper. I didn't think my end paper was that bad but the process was long and hard. I didn't feel like a did a good job on anything in the process and I hated the whole thing because I didn't think any of it was necessary and felt that the whole thing was very convoluted and annoying.

Martha- Purple Hibiscus Reading Response Fox- What have I learned in my teen years

How Closely do you Listen to Lyrics

I chose this prompt because I think listening closely to lyrics can either make or break a song. This message and what the artist is saying or describing is the most important thing about a song. If the artist is just describing a meaningless event or simply just talking to rhyme words that is pointless and boring. Artists such as Eminem and Royce Da 5'9" have meaning to their songs and can tell a story while still having a great flow and imagery. So whether you are in the mood to listen to a story or just listen to the flow of the words these artists will satisfy. Sometimes understanding lyrics to songs is difficult but with practice, you can understand they lyrics fairly easy.      The lyrics to a song is like listening to a poem that tells a story the artist can use their voice to make the words flow a certain way and make the listener feel a certain way. For example, The Way I Am by Eminem and Wait by Royce Da 5'9" both tell a great story and have a deeper m

Purple Hibiscus Reading Response

In Purple Hibiscus  Kambili's father is very abusive and controlling. Some would argue that he is just a bad person, however, I believe he cares about them very much but he doesn't know how to show them. He truly wants the best for them so when they do things like come in second in their class it disappoints him because he wants them to be the best. He also highly values religion so much so that when his father dies he refuses to partake in a "pagan" funeral. However, he does show he loves his father by paying for a nice funeral for him. I initially thought I would not enjoy this book because it is quite depressing and sad, but I have come to enjoy reading this book. Part of the reason I enjoy reading might be because it is a very unusual story. I have never read a story set in Nigeria nor a story with characters as complex as Papa and Kambili. Papa and Kambili are very complex characters that require work to truly understand them. I am looking forward to reading m

Trade War with China

CNBC: US farmers in 'precarious position' with China as trade war fears escalate I chose to write about the trade tariffs between China and the US on soybeans and other commodities. The Chinese government has threatened to impose a 25% tariff on various commodities such as soybeans imported from the US. This could make other countries items more attractive to one of the worlds largest consumer groups having a significant impact on the US industry. One of these items is the soybean, soybeans are one of the largest exports and China is one of the largest consumers of soybeans so if Chinese consumers are encouraged to buy other countries soybeans the US could lose a significant amount of income. If China imposes an import tariff on soybeans the effect it will have on the job market could be significant. Because soybeans are a large industry they require a large number of people to farm them creating many jobs in the US. If the US exports fewer soybeans fewer farmers will be ne
