Addi- Reading Response: Week 5 Bronwyn- "Haunted" by Naomi Shihab Nye

Dialogue

We were trapped in our little attic as the rain pelted against the roof and thunder crashed outside. We were trapped in hurricane Irma. Suddenly we heard a loud thunder strike outside and then the sound of wood splintering. "What was that?" I asked. As I finished m the last word a tree came crashing through the roof separating with its huge trunk. "Are you ok?" I screamed "No, my leg hurts really bad and I have a cut on my head," she answered. As I was digging through the rubble trying to reach my little sister. We heard what sounded like a train passing through our living room. I peeked through the hole in the roof and only saw white. It finally hit me this was a tornado. "Is that a tornado?" I asked scared to believe it was. "I think it is. Hold on to something heavy," she screamed over the tornado.

Personal Narritive Update

I think my personal narrative is going really well I have completed the rough draft and got it turned in on time. I had no problem getting to the required length. So far my biggest struggle has been putting commas in the appropriate place and fixing run-on sentences, but that has always been a problem with my writing. However, I have realized how great of a tool Grammarly is and plan on using it on every paper I do in high school. I have not yet visited the writing center and plan on visiting it to get help revising my rough draft. If anyone has any tips on how to identify comma splices and run-on sentences those would be greatly appreciated. Other than those issues I think my paper is going great. I just have to get it turned in on time and make sure everything is spelled right and I should get a good grade. I have never been an excellent student when it comes to English but I think I write an okay essay.

Bronwyn- Dear 9-year old... Tristen

Dear 12 Year Old

Dear 12 year old,             Listen to your parents you may think you know everything and are perfectly capable of living on your own and being independent. You don't you need to listen to your parents they have the experience and are wisdom to get you through just about any situation that can happen. They may aggravate you and constantly nag you, but they do it because they love you. Sometimes you may just want to tell them no because you think you know better, but you can't do that because in reality they know way more than you. They don't know more than you because they are finished with school, they know more than you because of the experiences they have had.       I have found that if there is a problem that I don't know how to solve weather it be math homework or a social problem, the best solution is to go ask a parent. They can answer almost any question you will have because they have experienced all that you have and more. Don't say that they

Response to Mint Snowball

I think  Mint Snowball was not a bad story, but after about the third time I read it it had become old. I really liked the Naomi Shihab Nye used incomplete sentences to affect the way the reader read and understood the story. Another thing that struck me as interesting was the amount vivid detail. It clearly painted a picture in the reader's mind. But like I said after the third time I read it the lust of the appropriate incomplete sentences and vivid detail wore off.        Mint Snowball is narrative, this means that  it is based on a personal story that the author has experienced and how it has affected their life. In this particular narrative the author vividly recalls the details of the setting in the story. In Mint Snowball the author talks about a long lost mint snowball recipe, and how it has affected her life. I don't particularly enjoy narratives but this one was okay. I look forward to reading more of Naomi Shihab Nye's works.

Tristen September 11th -Addi

9/11

16 years ago on September 11th 2001 19 Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners. Two of the three were hijacked and redirected towards the famous Twin Tower World Trade Centers. These buildings were significant because New York city is the stock market and business central of the world. The World Trade Centers are important because many business small and large around the world had offices there for business transactions. This was the most deadly attack that occurred on 9/11. Approximately 2,606 died at The Twin Towers alone.      Another plane was redirected towards The Pentagon, the United States center of defense. All military and defense issues are discussed and managed at The Pentagon. The fourth and final plane was believed to have been heading towards The White House but instead was crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The men and women one this plane who managed to over throw the terrorists and possibly save The White House are considered national heroes to

Response to Tom Clancy's Without Remorse

My current outside reading book is Tom Clancy's Without Remorse. This book is about a Vietnam War veteran named John Kelly. John's wife previously died and he is very lonely without her and border line depressed. To compensate for his depression he picks up a hitch hiker. He then finds out she is hooked on drugs. After he falls in love with the girl he wants to help get sober.      I picked this book because I really like Tom Clancy novels. After I read the first few pages of this book I really felt like I would like this book, and so far I do. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes an action packed novel with a hint of violence and mystery.

Fahrenheit 451 Response

For my second summer reading choice book I read Fahrenheit 451 I chose this book because it was recommended to me by my mother. This book takes place in a dystopian futuristic urban society. The main character is a fireman named Guy Montag. In this book all books are illegal and if you have one you are a criminal. The fireman's job is to burn the books. Since houses are fire proof all they do is receive a tip and show up on your doorstep with flamethrowers.      Guy Montag is one of these firemen and has been all his adult life. After he meets a 17 year old girl named Clarisse McClellan who helps him realize how messed up modern society is. Clarisse told Guy that a long time ago firemen actually put the fires out not started them. Clarisse helps Guy realize that he is not happy with his life, and that books are important and he loves them. Since books are illegal and Guy's job is to get ride of them this makes for a very interesting story.
